A Quaint
Little Fishing
Village Along The Gulf Coast
Steinhatchee is
located in the "Big Bend" of Florida at the mouth of the Steinhatchee
River, where the river flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
This small Florida community was at one time a small commercial
fishing village where many residents worked in the fishing or timber
logging industries. While still a small and quaint settlement,
commercial fishing in Dead Man's Bay is now done off-shore in the Gulf
of Mexico. Steinhatchee is served by State Highway 51. |

Steinhatchee has always been a popular spot for fishermen and
hunters. The pristine shoreline and shallow grass flats provide
habitats for any number of saltwater fish. Here you
